Does Google show your site as "Mobile-friendly" in the search results?

New blog post:

Late last year, Google launched the Mobile-friendly label in their search results when using a mobile device. The purpose of this new label is so mobile users know which sites they may click on that are mobile enabled (Responsive) versus which ones are not adhering to the latest coding standards and are difficult to navigate on a mobile device. Google added the text label under the domain name just before the website description and the label reads “Mobile-friendly”. This is a clear sign that it is crucial to have a mobile enabled website as well as as some other reasons to be mentioned.

mobile friendly web design

Here Is What Our Site Looks Like In Google

Google is quoted as saying, the reason for implementing this is that it can be a “frustrating experience for our mobile searchers” to end up on a web page that is not mobile-friendly, thus they are adding the label to their mobile search results to communicate this to the searcher.

How do you know of your site is mobile friendly? Well, use any mobile device and go to Google and do a search by your company name, if it does not show “Mobile-friendly” as part of your site listing, get help fast. As the numbers of mobile users increase yearly, it is crucial to have a mobile enabled Responsive website. Currently about half of your site traffic comes to you from a mobile device and that number will only continue to increase.

Here are the following criteria in order to be qualified as a mobile enabled site:

    • Avoid technologies or animation that is not viewable or friendly to on mobile devices, such as Flash.

    • Optimize your text to be readable without having to zoom in.

    • Responsive site that auto-resizes your content to the screen visitors are using (i.e mobile, tablet, laptop, ect.) so visitors do not have to scroll left and right

Other benefits of mobile enabled web sites:

  • Easy to fill out lead generation forms on mobile (more leads).

  • Easy to call your company as user simply click on the phone number to start dialing, typing numbers in to call.

  • Mobile sites load faster than traditional sites, this is important for mobile user who are on slower 3G networks, they will leave if things do not load fast as mobile users tend to be a bit more impatient than traditional PC users.

If you are unsure as to whether Google considers your site as mobile friendly here is a site that will tell you:

The best site for Wordpress Themes and many other website resources

Themeforest is part of the Envato Market of websites. The Envato Market are a set of inter-connected sites that allow anyone to buy or sell all sorts of digital products, ranging from WordPress themes to royalty-free images and graphics for your website. When you create an account on one, it will work on any of their websites. Each marketplace has its own sellers (authors), staff, items for sale, support forums and community. This means the focus on each site is a bit different with the products offered, but all have a familiar branding, site layout and interface all accessible with your single account.

We have used Themeforest for years to assist our clients in their design options for their website. The site offers live demos of the many designs available that helps clients tell us what they do and do not like in a design in order for us to build them a custom solution that meets their needs.

One of the greatest things about Themeforst is that each author who sells a design or WordPress theme is expected to offer support on their product for the life of the purchase. To assist in this, most authors (sellers) have their own personal sites with included support forums which you can submit a ticket through to get a solution on any issues you are having with their product.

Before we found Themeforest, we used to direct clients who had no idea what they wanted for a design to a site called TemplateMonster to get ideas for their site design. If a client chose a theme from this site and there was an error in coding or any need for support, Template Monster staff would offer support, not the actual creator of the theme itself. The problem with this was that it would often take a minimum of 72 hours to get any type of response through their ticket system and in most cases took a week or more to get full resolution on the problem. This obviously caused delays in the completion of a website for our clients as the average time we strive to complete a website is 10 business days.

With Themeforest, the support offered by their authors

Envato Market is made up of 8 marketplaces:

ActiveDen, AudioJungle, CodeCanyon, ThemeForest, GraphicRiver, VideoHive, 3DOcean, CodeCanyon, PhotoDune.

Web Design Trends In 2015

Happy New Year, in this article our goal is to discuss the things to look out for in the web design industry in 2015. Just liek any industry technology related, web design is ever changing and it is important to keep up with the latest technologies in order to deliver your customers the best experience possible when navigating your website.

We all know that online mobile usage is growing at a rapid pace and quickly taking over desktop usage in all industries. As mobile devices become more sophisticated with their web browsers, it is not only more convenient but also faster to surf the web from your mobile device. 2014 was the year for mobile and 2015 will be the year when not having a mobile enabled website will start costing businesses valuable clients.

Here are a few statistics that show the importance of a mobile enabled web site :

  • In 2014, mobile traffic to a website exceeded desktop traffic

  • There are approximately 2 billion desktops computers in the world and more than 5 billion mobile devices

  • Mobile based searches are expected to exceed desktop searches in 2014

  • In the USA, 94% of people with smartphones search for local business services on their phones.

The Next Phase For Responsive Web Design

In the past couple of years, making a site “responsive” only required that it worked on desktops, tablets, and smartphones. Now with new technology like smart watches, smart TVs with web browser, and even home appliances that can navigate the web, the definition of responsive design is expanding at a very rapid pace.

Each of the above platforms has its unique challenges, tablets and main problem has been ensuring that content is appropriately sized and easy to navigate.

But on a smart watch, for example, even the navigation system has to be completely rethought to accommodate how we use the device. Watches won’t be able to use smartphone site designs, and a site optimized for desktops won’t necessarily work when viewed on a smart TV.
